Wilfried Gnonto has made it clear he wants to leave Leeds United this summer as Everton lead the transfer race, according to The Boot Room.

The online source reported [16 July] that the Toffees have moved ahead of Newcastle United to sign the 20-year-old winger after telling Leeds his desire to move back to the Premier League.

Sean Dyche’s men have been linked with Gnonto in previous transfer windows, with the player handing in a transfer request last summer amid interest from Goodison Park, although he ultimately stayed.

Gnonto has come on leaps and bounds during his time at Elland Road, becoming an integral part of Daniel Farke’s squad last season as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

Managing to push Dan James to the bench, who was experiencing his best season to date, he finished the league season with eight goals and two assists in 36 appearances, though only 19 were starts.

Gnonto is extremely agile and pacey, with a strong shooting boot, which could add some much-needed talent on the right flank. His defensive attributes also make him an intelligent buy.

It is understandable why the Toffees are interested in the Italian youngster, given the ongoing problem on the flanks for Dyche during the last couple of seasons.

And given that Leeds remain in the Championship, rumours surrounding Gnonto were always going to rise again, with Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter also linked with exits.

While Jack Harrison is a decent addition from the Whites, Gnonto could prove to be a much more dangerous signing, especially with his ability to play anywhere across the front line.

Iliman Ndiaye also has the ability to occupy the wings, though he is much more likely to play through the middle, especially if Dominic Calvert-Lewin is to leave this summer.

In other Everton news, Jarrad Branthwaite has sent a four-word message after an exit was confirmed at Goodison Park.
