Everton could reward Jarrad Branthwaite with brand new contract - report

Everton could look to reward Jarrad Branthwaite with a new contract once the transfer window shuts, according to Chris Beesley.

The Liverpool Echo journalist reports that the Toffees refuse to be bullied into selling the 21-year-old central defender amid interest from Manchester United.

The club have already rejected two bids [Times, 9 July] and are holding out for a £70m valuation, and if Branthwaite stays beyond the current window they could look to hand him a new contract to reflect his new status in the team.

It’s not even been a year since Branthwaite signed a new four-year deal at Goodison Park following a successful loan spell at PSV Eindhoven.

That deal tied him to the club until 2027, which means next summer he would only have two years remaining and that is usually the prime time for a club to sell a player to get maximum value.

But Everton wants to keep Branthwaite for as long as possible and know that if he is worth £70m to them now then he could be worth even more next summer if he continues to develop.

Manchester United’s interest is unlikely to dwindle and that means they’re likely to return with a third bid, either this summer or next year, and Everton want to be in as strong a position as possible.

A new deal would show great intent in keeping their best players but also put them in a position of strength for any negotiations, so it would be perfect business.
