Everton tell bidder he is only second in queue as takeover finally nears - report

John Textor is ready to wait to make his move to take over Everton after a new update emerged at Goodison Park, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist reported via his Patreon page on Sunday (9 June) that the Crystal Palace co-owner has been told he is second in line to acquire the club, with the current favourites being Andy Bell and George Downing.

Despite this Textor still intends to win the trade long-term once he sells his shares at Selhurst Park after the Toffees told him that a rival bidder is further down the line and close to completing a deal with Farhad Moshiri.

The American businessman had hoped to be granted exclusivity by Everton to force the Premier League into allowing him to hold shares in two different clubs while he found a way to sell his stake in Palace.

Will John Textor take over Everton after new Goodison Park update?

Textor has been public in his desire to succeed Farhad Moshiri at Goodison Park, but that doesn’t mean that a deal has ever been close to allow the Palace co-owner take some sort of control over the Toffees.

As soon as 777 Partners deal with Moshiri inevitably collapsed, there were always going to be several different parties interested in swooping in to acquire the club. Even in its current state, it is one of the Premier League’s most historic and well-known teams.

Farhad Moshiri could be on the brink of finally selling his 94.1% stake at Everton.

Textor’s current ties with Palace complicate things even further as the American would have always had to sell his shares at Selhurst Park before stepping in at Goodison and as most Toffees supporters will know, that’s not an easy process.

Hopefully, Downing and Bell’s takeover will be completed with ease if it is as close as has been reported. Whether they keep control for an extended period remains to be seen, especially if Textor is eyeing a second swoop.

It is safe to say the drama is only just beginning at Goodison Park.
