Everton 'Very Close' to eight-figure transfer for brand new striker - report

Everton are “very close” to agreeing an eight-figure transfer fee with Marseille to sign striker Iliman Ndiaye, according to Abdellah Boulma.

Writing on his personal X account (24 June), the journalist reports that the forward has already said yes to a move to Goodison Park [Massilia Zone, 21 June] and there only a few details remaining to finalize a deal.

An exact transfer fee hasn’t been revealed, but Boulma has shared that Marseille are “not far from recovering their investment from last year”, where they signed Ndiaye from Sheffield United in a deal worth around £20million [Guardian, 5 October 2023].

Everton set to splash the cash to strengthen striker position

Sean Dyche has identified the attacking area of the pitch to be strengthened this summer, and it makes sense after a lacklustre season in front of goal.

Arnaut Danjuma has left the club after his loan expired, but Jack Harrison is set to return to the club on another loan deal from Leeds United. But the centre-forward position needs something extra.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is attracting interest despite Newcastle dropping out of the race for the forward, which has seen a move for Yankuba Minteh to Goodison Park collapsing too.

Ndiaye now seems like he could be an alternative for Dyche in that position, and with his ability to play both as a centre-forward and also out wide he provides options for the squad.

£20million seems like a steep amount for a player who only managed four goals in 46 appearances in the 2023/24 season, but Dyche has earned the trust of the fans heading into the new campaign.
