Everton will look to make Jack Harrison’s second loan from Leeds United permanent “in due course”, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported via Twitter on 24 June that the winger’s return to Goodison Park is now sealed after all the relevant documents were signed.

Although there is no permanent option contained in the loan it is reportedly a “concrete possibility” that the Toffees will buy the Englishman anyway at some point down the line, with his second temporary deal now a “here we go confirmed” according to Romano.

Harrison scored four times in 35 first-team appearances last season and was free to return on a second loan thanks to a clause kept open in his contract by Leeds’ defeat in the play off final ending their promotion hopes.

He is the second addition to the squad this summer after the club announced the arrival of Tim Ireogbunam from Aston Villa, with Harrison’s return now confirmed.

Sean Dyche hopes to make Jack Harrison permanent Everton deal

Everything pointed to Harrison returning to Goodison Park once Southampton confirmed their return to the Premier League at the Whites’ expense and his exit clause proved to still be in effect.

At Elland Road they would surely have prefered a permanent transfer right now as it looks unlikely that he will ever return to play for the club, and there was the possibility that another side could swoop in and put money on the table.

But the 27-year-old looks to have built up a strong connection with the Toffees already and has chosen to return on loan for now, securing a “key ambition” for the club this summer [Liverpool Echo, 5 June].

With the sale of Lewis Dobbin confirmed, the departure of Amadou Onana planned [Alan Myers, 14 June], and the potential for further exits from the likes of Ben Godfrey and Dominic Calvert-Lewin it appears there is a transfer budget coming together.

Everton are bringing back Jack Harrison on loan, and potentially long-term.

But if there is money to spend it looks like it is being directed elsewhere first so the ability to get Harrison back for the year while only committing to pay his wages at this stage is a useful one for Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell.

In other Everton news, the most significant reason Dan Friedkin’s takeover could collapse has been mooted as a legal issue not yet in the public domain emerges.
