Everton are interested in Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra and are working behind the scenes to bring him to Goodison Park, according to L’Equipe.
The outlet reported on its website on Monday (29 July) that Sean Dyche’s side could submit an offer for the 20-year-old in the coming days as they look to add to their squad ahead of the new season.
Although the Toffees have been interested in Diarra for months already, Strasbourg are reluctant to lose the midfielder and don’t intend to allow him to leave this summer.
However, the 20-year-old’s stance on a summer exit could prove to be decisive when it comes to any potential transfer to Goodison Park.
Will Habib Diarra exit Strasbourg amid Everton transfer speculation?
Few Everton supporters would have expected Dyche and Kevin Thelwell to be this busy in the early stages of the transfer window, but the Toffees have moved incredibly quickly to make some big additions to their squad.
Diarra is an incredibly versatile player capable of playing anywhere across the midfield whether that be as a genuine number eight or even as a left or right winger when required.
Dyche’s side lacks depth in the wide areas and have been incredibly reliant on the likes of Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil in the past.
While that isn’t Diarra’s primary position, he could offer another option to help lighten the load in a similar manner to how James Garner played out wide last term.
The hard part of this deal is going to convincing Strasbourg to part ways with the 20-year-old as they seem incredibly keen to keep him this summer, regardless of what offer is made for his signature.
Everton don’t have loads of money to throw as a result of recent off-the-field issues on the blue half of Merseyside so it remains to be seen if they have the cash to spend to change the French club’s mind in the coming weeks.
In other Everton news, Jake O’Brien has reportedly arrived in Merseyside for his medical ahead of a summer transfer to Goodison Park
