Everton must only sign Blackburn Rovers striker Sammie Szmodics if his personality aligns with what Sean Dyche wants.
The Toffees are keen on securing the services of the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland striker who won the Championship Golden Boot last season. [FootballTransfers, 1 May]
Szmodics is understood to be open to leaving the club ahead of the transfer deadline as talks are ongoing over his exit. [Alan Myers, 29 July]
Phelan, a former Toffees defender who represented the Republic of Ireland on over 40 occasions, told Oddballs and Outcasts on 29 July at 1:15:12: “It depends again what the manager wants, doesn’t it? What type of personality he wants in there.
“What type of personality fits into his model his playing model you know there’s been you know a lot of players gone to clubs and it hasn’t really worked out.
“You have to be very careful now.”
Sean Dyche needs to bring in the right personalities at Everton
Dyche must prioritise signing players whose personalities align with his vision and the club’s culture.
This is crucial for maintaining a harmonious dressing room atmosphere and fostering a positive environment under the new ownership.
Bringing in players with the right attitude and character is essential for team cohesion and performance.
In the case of Szmodics, the Toffees need to ensure that he not only possesses the necessary skills and goal-scoring ability but also fits into the team’s dynamic and shares the same values and work ethic.
A player with the wrong personality can disrupt the dressing room and negatively impact team morale.
Dyche’s emphasis on the right personalities reflects his understanding of the importance of team chemistry and the role it plays in achieving success on the pitch.
As the club looks to begin a new era under new ownership, it makes sense to have the right personalities.
In other Everton news, Alan Myers has issued an update as the Toffees want to sign a player Pep Guardiola called ‘Exceptional’.
