'I'm sorry...' - BBC Sportsound pundit baffled by what he heard about Rangers live on air today

Neil McCann has been left baffled by the Rangers medical team having an impact on the team that Philippe Clement selects after the 2-0 win against St Johnstone.

The Belgian admitted that Vaclav Cerny was not selected to start the Champions League defeat against Dynamo Kyiv after medical advice, but he did start in the Scottish League Cup win days later.

McCann could not get his head around it, admitting that he had fears going into the St Johnstone game based on the latest team selected by the Belgian.

Speaking live on BBC Sportsound [17 August, 17:24], McCann was scratching his head over what he has heard about decisions at Ibrox.

“I had my fears for Rangers in this game,” he said.

“I know the injuries are mounting up, but it has to be said about medical staff having an impact on whether players play or not, I can’t get my head around that, I’m sorry.”

Philippe Clement decision baffles at Rangers

Despite Cerny himself admitting that he felt ready to start against Kyiv, Clement took the advice of his staff instead, and it came back to haunt him.

How can one of your better attacking players not start the biggest game of August with millions on the line, but start in the first round that you are playing in the Scottish League Cup?

It makes no sense, and that was the point that McCann was making.

Cerny has been delightful since signing on loan from Wolfsburg, with his goal against Motherwell the highlight of it all, showing the quality that was missing desperately against the Ukranians.

Clement will be desperate for more signings though after vowing to fix the constant injury issues that are haunting the squad, with Robin Propper the latest victim at Hampden Park.

If Cerny can stay fit though, that is one area of the pitch that is sorted with his quality.

In other Rangers news, the club are now sparking a bidding war to sell a first-team player for more money before the transfer deadline.
