Everton have set two priority signings for the January transfer window to strengthen Sean Dyche’s squad, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that there’s a hope from fans that the new owners will “open the chequebook and splash the money” in January.
However, well-placed sources have told Football Insider that isn’t going to be the case in the upcoming transfer window.
There are concerns over profit and sustainability and financial fair play which the Merseyside giants have had hanging over them for the last three years.
Everton are hoping to sign cover at right back for the rest of the season, while a wide attacker is also a priority for Dyche.
Dyche has identified those two positions as his key areas to improve his squad as he aims to push them away from any potential relegation fight.
Everton will be relying on loan moves
Everton are going to be trying to sign players in January, but due to the financial restrictions they’re dealing with the club are expected to be dipping into the loan market for most of their business.
A lot of clubs in the Premier League are set to do the same thing in January for a variety of reasons, which is going to make it competitive for all.
However, The Friedkin Group are currently planning more for next summer’s transfer window when they’ll do most of their business.
The new Everton owners will be attempting to put their own stamp on the club, but they also have to make a decision on Dyche’s future as his contract is up after this season.
Dyche has guided Everton to 15th in the Premier League table after the opening 17 games, with the club boasting a game in hand over the majority of other teams around them.
