Dan Gosling is certain Everton will avoid relegation this season and hopes the club and solve their financial issues off the pitch amid ongoing takeover talks with Dan Friedkin.
The Toffees have picked up five points from their past three Premier League games having failed to get off the mark in their opening four.
Off the pitch, the Friedkin Group have agreed to purchase the 94.1 per cent stake owned by Farhad Moshiri (ESPN) with an end finally in sight to the long-term takeover saga.
Former Everton midfielder Gosling, speaking on talkSPORT (9 October), said he thinks the Toffees will be fine in the top flight and spoke of his hope the club can get back on an even keel off the pitch.
He said: “I think they’ll be okay, they’ve obviously been in a sticky period the last few years, it’s just about staying up for them right now and getting to the new stadium and starting afresh.
“Hopefully, their finances are getting sorted out and this takeover’s going on and on but I think they’ll be alright this year.”
Everton really need to avoid relegation
It sounds simple but Everton really need to avoid the drop this season. With the impending takeover, the Merseyside club will have a huge opportunity to rebuild and start injecting finances into the areas of the club and squad that they haven’t recently been able to.
Despite their current league position, Everton have a number of solid Premier League-level players that would undoubtedly leave should Everton end up in the Championship. The likes of Iliman Ndiaye, Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin would certainly have top-flight admirers.
Not only that but the Championship is an incredibly unforgiving league and one that is certainly not easy to escape from. With clubs such as Sunderland, Leeds and West Brom all currently playing their football in the division.
The takeover should provide a clean slate for Everton and a springboard for everyone involved to build on and the January transfer window likely couldn’t come soon enough for the Toffees as they’ll be hoping to address the lack of depth in their squad – albeit the takeover still needs to get approval first.
