Everton look set to grow their scouting operation with Colin Rooney in line to take a job behind the scenes at Goodison Park, according to The Athletic.

The online outlet reported on 10 October that the former European scouting for Toronto FC looks set to replace Nathan Fisher as Everton’s new European scout after he departed for Wycombe Wanderers.

The scout’s remit will include coverage of Spain, Portugal and Italy as the Toffees look to create a positive set-up ahead of a proposed takeover by Dan Friedkin.

This will also see two scouts cover South America while Phil Boardman and Ole Nielsen come in to cover Europe and undervalued young talent respectively.

It is certainly positive to see the club looking to build from the bottom up ahead of TFG potentially coming in at Goodison Park.

Although the deal isn’t yet done, it is hoped that regulatory hurdles will be cleared ahead of completing the takeover by December [iNews].

As a result, getting everything in order at a recruitment level ahead of the January window could prove to be a beneficial move.

There is no guarantee of any funds being available to Sean Dyche in the winter window but utilising their scouts to find under-appreciated talents could prove to be a masterstroke.

This move has already been pulled off at Goodison with Iliman Ndiaye coming in from Marseille after a difficult campaign in Ligue 1 last campaign.

The Senegal international has been a shining light for the Toffees this campaign, showing the value that is there for Dyche’s side in this market.
