Bryan King has suggested Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin could join a newly-promoted Premier League club next summer.
The ex-Goodison scout believes clubs such as Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland could all take a look at the exit-linked striker if they are promoted from the Championship this season.
As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio via his personal website (20 December), Fiorentina have expressed an interest in Calvert-Lewin.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes the 27-year-old’s future lies in England.
“Calvert-Lewin cost relatively little money when he joined the football club,” King said.
“He hasn’t done too bad, injuries aside, he has certainly paid back the money he cost with some of the goals he has scored for the club. I would have thought his contract situation would have been sorted out.
“Now, you’re looking at the likes of Burnley, Leeds, and Sunderland. You’re looking at teams that could come up this season and need to strengthen. They could get Calvert-Lewin for a relatively little amount of money.”
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to quit Goodison Park?
Calvert-Lewin’s contract with Everton expires at the end of the season. As a result, the Friedkin Group could look to address the Englishman’s contract situation in January [via TEAMtalk, 20 December].
However, there is no guarantee that Calvert-Lewin will put pen to paper on a new deal at Goodison Park. Therefore, if he were to become a free agent, it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see Premier League clubs sniffing around.
However, with clubs such as Fiorentina linked with a move, Calvert-Lewin could be more tempted by a move abroad, rather than a move to another club in the Premier League who are likely to be fighting at the wrong end of the table, just as the Toffees have been in recent years.
