Ex-Tottenham employee: Big-name star unhappy amid 'Ridiculous' contract development

Son Heung-min is thought to be unhappy at Tottenham amid uncertainty over his long-term future.

As reported by The Times [21 December], Spurs want Son to remain with the club into his late thirties. However, an agreement over a new contract is not close.

Son’s current deal expires at the end of the season, although Tottenham have the option to extend his contract by a further year, an option which they intend to exercise [via Florian Plettenberg, 22 November].

However, that extension is yet to be made official, and ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – cannot understand why.

“This should have been sorted out three or four months ago,” King said.

“It is ridiculous. This is a player of quality who has given his football career to Tottenham. Since he joined the football club, up until the present day, there couldn’t have been a better servant.

“Watching the way he has played recently, I question whether 100 per cent of his heart is still at Tottenham because I’d certainly feel aggrieved if I were him. I’m not sure whether Son is happy at the moment. How many years has he been at the football club? And he’s been a star virtually from day one.”

Son is unlikely to be happy about the way his contract situation has been handled. The South Korean is one of the club’s most important players, both on and off the pitch. However, this hasn’t been reflected in the way his future is being dealt with.

Therefore, that might explain why the 32-year-old hasn’t been at his best recently.

As a result, if the club want to get their star player firing again, sorting out his immediate future could be a quick and easy way to do that.
