Exclusive: Arsenal and Chelsea monitoring midfield talent who scouts are likening to John Obi Mikel

Arsenal have placed a real focus on acquiring players who they feel can take them closer to winning the Premier League.

Over the summer, there were four new arrivals at the Emirates Stadium with Mikel Arteta looking to fine tune his side which pushed Manchester City so close to the title last term.

Riccardo Calafiori was by far the youngest signing of the four but he still arrived with considerable experience in Serie A.

Clearly Arsenal were looking to bring in players who Arteta felt could improve their squad as they aim to make it third time lucky in their title pursuit.

But the Gunners are a club with a rich history of bringing through their young talent which has been seen over the years.

And TBR football understands Arsenal are one of the clubs who are monitoring the progress of the ivory Coast midfielder Mario Dorgeles.

Arsenal eyeing development of Mario Dorgeles

TBR sources understand there are a number of Premier League sides who are keeping an eye on the Ivorian midfielder.

Dorgeles is currently playing his football out in Denmark with Nordsjaelland where he has become a regular in the Danish side’s starting XI.

The 20-year-old moved to Denmark when he turned 18 in 2022 from their sister operation – the Ghana-based Right to Dream Academy.

But Arsenal are not alone in eyeing the midfielder with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and even Brentford all credited with an interest.

TBR can confirm all of these Premier League outfits are monitoring the Ivorian and have already watched him play at some point this season.

Mario Dorgeles likened to John Obi Mikel by scouts

Some of the scouts who have been watching Dorgeles have described him to TBR Football as being ‘similar in demeanour and play’ to John Obi Mikel – who also honed his skills in Scandinavia before moving to England.

Obi-Mikel was a player who enjoyed a lot of success in the Premier League with the Blues having played 372 times and won just about everything possible at club level.

There is also interest from mainland Europe with Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Bayer Leverkusen and Marseille are amongst the sides to have watched him this season.

Interest in Dorgeles is high as the central midfielder continues to impress in Denmark having already returned a goal and two assists in the league this season.
