Report: Chelsea & Newcastle eye Premier League player who Carlo Ancelotti called 'complete'

Chelsea have done a lot of talking in recent transfer windows and you expect that to continue in January.

The difference is that, in recent times, there has always been an air of negativity about what they have done because it has also been against the backdrop of their poor league position.

But, as of this moment, Enzo Maresca has made a strong start to life as a Chelsea manager and his team are sitting in fourth place.

No one expects Chelsea to challenge for the Premier League title, but after spending over £1bn, what their fans do want is for the team to return to Europe’s elite competition.

Newcastle were in the Champions League last season, but their seventh-placed finish and Manchester United’s FA Cup final win in May meant that there is no Europe for them this term.

Eddie Howe won’t be England’s next manager, but just like those at Stamford Bridge, he has had an interesting summer transfer window, mainly because targets weren’t met.

That’s why, come January, it’s going to be interesting the road the duo go down and whether or not they will be aggressive in their approach.

Either way, it seems as though they are looking at the same target from Everton.

Chelsea and Newcastle United looking at Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out-of-contract at Everton at the end of the season and there seems to be clubs lining up to take him on.

GiveMeSport have reported that Chelsea and Newcastle are competing with Juventus for Calvert-Lewin’s signature, as well as those from the Saudi Pro League.

The 27-year-old, who has had huge injury issues in recent years, can sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club in January if he wishes.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin the ‘complete striker’

The best season of Calvert-Lewin’s career came when Carlo Ancelotti was in charge of the Merseyside club.

The 11-cap England star netted 16 goals and Ancelotti labelled him the ‘complete striker’, but that’s when his injuries took a turn for the worst.

Calvert-Lewin has been trying to find his feet again and has been healthy for well over 12 months.
