Exclusive: Chelsea now scouting 'very important' striker who Tottenham looked to buy this summer

Chelsea have made a positive start to the 2024/25 campaign under the guidance of their summer appointment Enzo Maresca.

Another victory on the weekend for Chelsea has seen the Blues climb up the table into fifth spot with 10 points under their belt.

There have been some positive signs at Stamford Bridge in the early stages of the new campaign compared to what fans have seen in recent seasons.

And the victory on the weekend summed up Chelsea’s development under Marseca with a convincing 3-0 win over West Ham United.

But the search for further improvement is still going on in the background in west London with the Blues eyeing more attacking additions.

TBR Football understands that Chelsea are doing homework on Victor Boniface and have scouted him in recent weeks.

Chelsea eyeing striker who Tottenham eyed this summer

Chelsea, although happy with Nicolas Jackson, still believe they are a striker short and they tried to sign Vitor Osimhen in the summer but failed to agree terms but now they could turn to his compatriot Boniface.

Boniface, currently with Bayer Leverkusen, is seen as one of the top strikers prospects in Europe and we can confirm Chelsea have watched him a couple of times this season including at the weekend when he came on to score an injury time winner for Xabi Alonso’s side.

TBR can also confirm that Tottenham showed an interest in Boniface prior to them making a move for Dominic Solanke.

But there was a number of strikers on Tottenham’s radar with Ange Postecoglou also admitting Ivan Toney was of interest over the summer.

Victor Boniface could provide improvement on Nicolas Jackson

It has to be said, both Boniface and Jackson have made seriously impressive starts to the 2024/25 campaign.

The pair have both been able to provide four goals across all competitions with three of Boniface’s coming in the Bundesliga and one in the Champions League.

“It was very important for his confidence and mood,” Alonso previously told the Bundesliga website.

“I’m now expecting the best from ‘Boni’. It’s always difficult for defenders to play against him [but] he can and must do more. He knows it and the team needs it.”

Meanwhile, Jackson has returned all four of his goals in the Premier League with two of those coming on Saturday at West Ham.

But it does appear as if the Blues would like to add to their options at striker to add alongside Jackson.
