‘Underrated’: People at Arsenal think £27m player just isn’t appreciated enough – journalist

Arsenal picked up a point at the Etihad on Sunday, and, once again, Gabriel Magalhaes was one of the stars of the show.

The Brazilian defender scored a crucial goal against City just a week on from his winner against Tottenham.

It’s fair to say that Gabriel is the man of the hour at Arsenal.

Speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Tom Clarke has been discussing Gabriel, and he says that people within Arsenal believe the defender is widely an underrated player.

Arsenal believe Gabriel is underrated

Clarke shares what people at Arsenal say about the £27m man.

“I think it’s a valid question to say which one do you prefer. I think Saliba is the more all-round defender, but if you speak to people around Arsenal they always say that Gabriel is widely quite underrated,” Clarke said.

“I think he has been instrumental in bringing Saliba through. It was only a couple of years ago that Saliba was making his debut, he was coming off a loan at Marseille, and people were wondering whether or not he’d stick around.”

Gabriel is underrated

Arsenal believe that Gabriel is widely underrated, and they’re not wrong.

Gabriel has proven over the past two years that he’s one of the best defenders on the planet, but he doesn’t get the credit he deserves in that way.

Gabriel somehow only has nine international caps to his name, and that is remarkable when you consider that Brazil aren’t stacked with defensive talents.

William Saliba gets most of the spotlight in Arsenal’s defence, but Gabriel deserves his fair share of credit for his remarkable performances.

Saliba is a fantastic defender, but his partner is just as important to this Arsenal team.

The Gunners have arguably the best defensive partnership in the world at the moment, and Gabriel needs his due credit for his contribution to Mikel Arteta’s side.
