Exclusive: Everton agree deal to sign Aston Villa star after bid accepted

Everton have agreed a deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old is set to join the Merseysiders permanently, adding to their options in central midfield.

Everton have had a bid accepted for the England Under-20 international after a breakthrough in talks and he is now closing in on a Villa Park exit this summer. 

The fee will be in the region of £10million as Villa look to raise cash amid concerns over meeting Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (7 June) that the Midlands giants must bring in £60million in player sales this summer.

Iroegbunam is rated highly within the corridors of power at Aston Villa but has struggled for game time under Unai Emery.

He turned out 15 times for the senior side in the 2023-24 campaign but managed just 288 minutes of game time.

The youngster did feature home and away against Ajax in the Europa Conference League – a tie Villa won 4-0 on aggregate.

Football Insider revealed in March that the Dutch giants held an interest in Iroegbunam – but Everton now look poised to win the race for his signature.

Aston Villa have already sold homegrown stars like Aaron Ramsey and Jaden Philogene to comply with PSR, and the former Queens Park Rangers loanee is set to become the next exit.

He made 28 starts in 33 total appearances for the London side in the 2022-23 campaign and played across the midfield in his most extensive senior experience to date.
