Exclusive: Fulham and Stockport County lead race to sign Gabriel Schluter

Fulham and Stockport County are leading the race to sign Blackpool’s teenage sensation Gabriel Schluter, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder has caught the eye of Premier League outfit Fulham with his displays for Blackpool’s academy sides and they have submitted a bid for him.

Stockport are keen to make a statement signing in luring the midfielder to Edgeley Park with Schluter having scored twice against the Hatters in the FA Youth Cup in November.

Schluter, 16, made his first-team debut for Blackpool last month when he came off the bench to EFL Trophy tie against Liverpool U21s at Bloomfield Road.

The teenager played nine minutes in that match, as the Seasiders played out a 0-0 draw against the Premier League leader’s young prospects.

They were then beaten 8-7 on penalties for the group stage bonus point, although Schluter did find the back of the net in the shootout.

Speaking after that game, Blackpool coach Richard Keogh had praised the club’s young players [Blackpool Gazette], including Schluter, who earned their senior debuts in that game.

The youngster has yet to make another first-team appearances for Steve Bruce’s side, who currently sit 18th in the League One table, two points clear of the relegation zone.

That puts them some way behind Stockport, who are fifth in the third-tier standings, ten points better off than the Tangerines as things stand.

Fulham meanwhile are tenth in the Premier League table, with Marco Silva’s men looking well set for another solid campaign in English football’s top-flight.

Football Insider reported that the London side are in the race to sign Celtic sensation Daniel Cummings after watching him in recent weeks.

In other news, Fulham are among the Premier League clubs chasing a Brighton player.
