Exclusive: Joe Rodon snubbed two PL-club offers to push through Leeds move

Joe Rodon pushed to join Leeds United this summer despite Premier League teams being interested in signing him.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Wales international wanted to return to Elland Road this summer.

Rodon permanently switched to the West-Yorkshire-based Championship side for a fee of £10million following a successful loan last season.

Sources say the central defender pushed to make the deal happen, even though some thought the chance had gone when Leeds failed to gain promotion to the Premier League last season.

Rodon was discussed when the two clubs began negotiating over Archie Gray, who joined Spurs for £40million.

However, Rodon did have options to stay in the top flight as Ipswich Town and Southampton made offers to sign him, according to sources.

Leeds United will gain a first-team regular

The move is seen as good business, as Rodon wasn’t expected to feature much for Tottenham this season.

The 26-year-old established himself as a regular under Daniel Farke last season while on loan, playing 50 games for the club in all competitions.

From a Spurs perspective, the Premier League side was able to cash in on a fringe player and add some finances to Ange Postecoglou’s transfer kitty.

That money is something Tottenham will aim to re-invest in the squad this summer to help bolster the squad.

Football Insider revealed that the club is keeping tabs on Nottingham Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi.
