Exclusive: Major update on Arsenal signing striker - 28-yr-old deal close

Arsenal swooping for a new striker in the final weeks of the summer transfer window “can’t be ruled out”, sources have told Football Insider.

The sale of Emile Smith Rowe and the possible departure of Eddie Nketiah could provide the required funds for Mikel Arteta to improve his squad in attack.

However, the current priority for Arsenal is to complete the signing of 28-year-old Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (12 August) that the Gunners are confident of completing a deal to sign Merino despite Martin Zubimendi’s likely move to Liverpool.

Arsenal are assessing their current forward options as well as available players across Europe as the transfer deadline approaches.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the current striker options available to Arteta as the Gunners once again vie to beat Man City to the Premier League title.

However, Bukayo Saka (20) and Leandro Trossard (17) were the top scorers for Arteta’s side in the 2023-24 campaign.

Nketiah remains at the Emirates Stadium but Arsenal are ready to allow him to find a new club in the remainder of the window.

Arsenal have raised much-needed transfer funds through the reported £34million sale of Smith Rowe to Fulham.

The Gunners have already wrapped up permanent moves for David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori so far in the summer window.

Arteta’s side start the new campaign at home against Wolves on Saturday (17 August).
