Expert View: New Rangers signing to justify fee after multi-million agreement

Nedim Bajrami will prove to be good value for Rangers after a multi-million-pound fee was agreed with Sassuolo, according to Redian Ara.

Speaking on The Rangers Review with Derek Clark (2 September), the Albanian football expert believes Bajrami will justify his fee after completing a £3.3m move [Gianluca Di Marzio, 30 August].

Other than Mohamed Diomande, whose loan move from Norsdjaelland was made permanent, Bajrami was by far the most expensive signing of the summer and will be under pressure to justify that fee.

Ara said, as shared on X: “A £3.3million fee I think is definitely value for money. From what I can tell from the Rangers team, a couple of the players have been bought for a similar fee.

“It is also not a cheap fee, of course not, so it’s an investment that was made after careful consideration from the Rangers staff. I think he’s going to justify that fee, 100 per cent.”

A big-money deadline-day signing is always likely to attract headlines regardless of which club it comes from, and Bajrami’s arrival is one which many fans will have been waiting for all summer at Ibrox.

However, the positive mood surrounding the transfer was soon dampened by Philippe Clement’s side being blown away in a 3-0 loss to Celtic, showing just how far his side are behind their Old Firm rivals.

Bajrami becoming a key figure in the team and justifying his hefty fee will undoubtedly help the Light Blues to bridge the gap which has opened up across Glasgow, but it remains to be seen if he’ll do so.

Arriving at the club on the same day that Scott Wright and the out-of-favour Todd Cantwell completed their moves away, Bajrami must represent a significant step up in the number 10 role at Ibrox.

With Diomande and Connor Barron occupying the spaces behind him in midfield, the onus is on Bajrami to become a talismanic figure in a Gers team which has been severely lacking in leadership this season.

In other Rangers news, another Gers attacker could face weeks on the sidelines after withdrawing from international duty with injury.
