Exclusive: Newcastle make approach to sign PL giants attacker

Newcastle United have made contact with Chelsea over a move for winger Noni Madueke, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old has been shortlisted along with the likes of West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville as Newcastle seek to improve their options on the right-wing.

After missing out on Michael Olise, who joined Bayern Munich for a reported £50.8 million, and complications surrounding any potential Bowen deal, Newcastle and Eddie Howe see Madueke as a more realistic option.

It is believed that no formal talks have begun at this stage following the approach from United to assess Madueke’s availability for sale.

Chelsea will be looking to offload fringe players after spending £65 million on five new signings.

The west London club are looking to make a profit on Madueke, who was signed from Dutch giants PSV for £29 million in January 2023.

Newcastle United set sights on Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville

Since joining Chelsea in January 2023, the England Under-21s international has been a bit part player for the club, making 46 appearances and scoring nine times.

The emergence of Cole Palmer meant Madueke was relegated to the bench but despite limited playing time, the winger averages a goal every 281 minutes.

Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy featured on Newcastle’s right wing last season, scoring six Premier League goals between them, that’s only one more than Madueke.

Newcastle view Madueke as a significant improvement on what they currently have in his position and are well placed to secure his signature.
