Exclusive: Newcastle ready to submit documents to support Man City

Newcastle United are prepared to submit documents in support of Man City ahead of their arbitration hearing next week, sources have told Football Insider.

City have taken legal action against the Premier League in an attempt to abolish the associated party transaction rules currently in place.

The regulations deem that all deals struck with parties related to a club’s ownership must be deemed fair market value before being finalised.

Four of City’s ten biggest commercial and sponsorship deals at present are with companies linked to their Abu-Dhabi ownership group, including their stadium naming rights and shirt deal with Etihad Airways.

If City are successful in their legal battle, they will be free to dictate bigger prices for future commercial and sponsorship deals.

As per The Times, the case is set to be settled after a two-week private arbitration hearing starting on Monday (10 June).

Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle United have showed support for City’s legal action and are prepared to submit documents to strengthen their case ahead of their hearing.

The Tyneside club have struck several commercial deals with Saudi Arabia-based companies following their takeover by PiF in 2021.

Newcastle would be free to increase their commercial and sponsorship income via Saudi companies if the Premier League’s ATP rules are scrapped.

Newcastle’s commercial revenue soared from £26.5million in 2021-22 to £43.9million in 2022-23.
