Exclusive: Sheffield United agree deal to sign 24-year-old

Callum O’Hare has agreed a deal to join Sheffield United on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old will sign a four-year deal after completing a medical and other formalities at the Blades’ training ground.

The transfer is expected to be completed today (15 July).

Sheffield United have been looking to rebuild their squad following their relegation from the Premier League, and have moved quickly to beat rivals to his signature.

O’Hare left Coventry after four years at the club when his contract expired last month, alerting interested parties about his availability and allowing United to swoop.

O’Hare joined Coventry on an initial one-year loan in 2019 as he helped them win League One and promotion to the Championship before he made his move permanent in 2020.

Since then, he made 182 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals and providing 30 assists as he became a key player under Mark Robins.

The midfielder missed the beginning of last season with a cruciate ligament injury, but featured 36 times in all competitions, scoring ten goals and providing four assists.

He also played a key role in Coventry’s run to the FA Cup semi-final, but missed his penalty as they were defeated by Man United.

Despite O’Hare’s important role in the team, the two parties failed to reach an agreement over a new deal, allowing him to leave for free.

After an impressive season at Coventry, O’Hare had attracted interest from the likes of West Ham, Aston Villa and Southampton, as revealed by Football Insider.

However, Sheffield United moved quickly to get the deal done ahead of their rivals and expect to announce the deal later today.
