Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk 'will sign new Liverpool contracts' - Expert

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are both expected to commit to new contracts at Liverpool despite ongoing speculation over their futures.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that no deals have been agreed yet, but they are determined to get them tied down.

While negotiations are yet to reach their conclusion, there is a growing feeling that agreements will be reached with both players before the end of the season.

Salah, 32, remains a crucial member of Arne Slot’s team after having scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in 15 Premier League games so far.

Those numbers rise to 16 and 13 across 23 games in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Brown previously told Football Insider that Liverpool would like to have Van Dijk’s contract situation sorted before the end of the year.

He echoed those comments once again, but insisted there is no concerns that either player will agree a move away even if the deals aren’t signed before January.

With both players out of contract at the end of the season, they will be free to negotiate terms over a pre-contract deal next month, but Liverpool are remaining confident.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience working closely with players at the top level including in over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the club want to have both players tied down before the season ends.

“I expect both of them will sign new contracts,” he told Football Insider.

“There are still a few issues to iron out, especially with Salah, when it comes to the length of the deal and the money involved, so it’s not done yet.

“But I’m told there’s a positive feeling about things and they’re not worried at the moment.

“Things are less certain with Alexander-Arnold, I think that’s much more up in the air.

“Real Madrid are obviously still keen and I think he’s a bit torn between the two clubs.

“Getting both Salah and Van Dijk tied down will be a major boost for Liverpool during their title challenge, so they’ll want it all wrapped up before the end of the season.

“But in terms of agreeing any moves away, that certainly won’t happen in January even if they haven’t signed with Liverpool yet.

“Like I say, nothing is completed or signed, but there’s a feeling both of them will stay.”
