Exclusive: Star undergoes Birmingham medical tomorrow as deal agreed

Hearts defender Alex Cochrane will undergo a medical at Birmingham City on Monday morning (15 July), sources have told Football Insider.

The two sides have reached an agreement on a deal worth £1million for the 24-year-old full-back, who will now travel to the Blues’ training ground.

After his medical takes place on Monday, Cochrane will put the finishing touches on a deal to leave Scotland in favour of a move to League One.

This is the latest of many transfers for the ambitious Blues as they strive to win promotion from League One at the first time of asking.

Cochrane is a graduate of the Brighton academy and has represented England at under-16 and under-20 levels, although the bulk of his career appearances have come in Scotland.

He made the permanent move to Hearts from Brighton in 2022 after an impressive loan spell the previous season where he helped the team reach the Scottish Cup final.

Overall, the left-back has made 126 appearances for the club, 40 of which came last season as he also featured in the Europa Conference League.

A move back to England proved tempting for Cochrane, however, with the opportunity to represent an ambitious Birmingham side proving too tough to turn down.

The deal is expected to be completed within the coming days after final medical checks are concluded and a contract is officially signed at the Wast Hills training base.

Cochrane will become Birmingham City’s fourth summer signing after Alfie May, Emil Hansson, Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Ryan Allsop made the switch to St Andrew’s.

In other news, 18-year-old Ajax goalkeeper Tommy Setford is undergoing a medical at Arsenal.
