Exclusive: Tottenham plan to activate release clause

Man United and Tottenham are ready to pay £60million+ to land Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has a release clause at Selhurst Park worth an initial £60million, with further add-ons payable in future.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (10 June) that Man United are poised to race Tottenham to sign Eze in the summer transfer window.

Sources say both sides feel his buyout clause is on the cheap side and are preparing to activate it in the summer window.

It is believed the England international is high on the list of potential targets at both clubs and ticks a lot of boxes for the new-look INEOS recruitment staff at Old Trafford.

He enjoyed a fantastic 2023-24 campaign with Palace and has enhanced his reputation further with a Three Lions call-up for the European Championships in Germany.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Eagles will do “everything they can” to keep Eze if his release clause is activated – but they stand little chance of preventing a big-money transfer.

Tottenham signed James Maddison last summer (2023) in a reported £40million deal but have no qualms about adding another attacking midfield star to their squad.

Man United added Mason Mount to their ranks in 2023 but the former Chelsea ace is yet to get his feet under the table at Old Trafford.

Eze notched 11 goals and six assists in 31 appearances in the 2023-24 campaign, including three strikes in the last two games of the season against Wolves and Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old signed a fresh contract at Crystal Palace in November 2023 which is set to run for three more years.

In other news, Man United told to pay another £30million to complete defender deal.
