Ibrox Exclusive: Rangers could play at Murrayfield for entire 24-25 season - Wyness

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Rangers could play at Murrayfield in Edinburgh for the entire 2024-25 campaign.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the home of Scottish rugby is the “only sensible option” for the Gers after a delay to construction at Ibrox.

The Scottish Sun reported on Wednesday (26 June) that Rangers have held talks over a temporary move to Murrayfield – with the 67,144-seater stadium “high on the list of venue options”.

Rangers confirmed last week (20 June) that they could be unable to begin the new season at Ibrox due to material shipping delays.

The Gers will host Motherwell and Ross County in August and will also play at least one home fixture in the Champions League.

Rangers could make long-term Murrayfield move, says Wyness

Wyness claimed Rangers’ potential move to Edinburgh, 47 miles from Ibrox, will be fraught with “issues”, including policing and transport.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Murrayfield seems to be the only sensible option.

“It’s in Edinburgh, not Glasgow – that’s the only key factor.

“There are a lot of issues around that, in terms of policing or transport.

“It could be three months, it could be six months – it could even be a whole season.

“We’ve seen Spurs move into Wembley and other clubs relocating, but that’s usually when clubs are rebuilding a stadium.

“In this case, it’s just about repairs. There’s no big gain at the end, it’s just a loss of revenue.

“I noticed the chief executive has gone to Saudi Arabia, and that could be quite clever timing on his part.

“Someone has got to have known about this for a while. I wouldn’t like to be the one left to sort this all out.”
