One-capped Super Eagles star makes Trabzonspor return, talks on possible Onuachu link-up

Nigerian international Anthony Nwakaeme has returned to Trabzonspor on a free transfer after spending two years away from the Turkish side, Soccernet.ng reports.

During the 2022 summer transfer window, the left winger, who had played for Trabzonspor from 2018 to 2022, left to join Al-Fayha after his contract expired.

Reports from Turkish media outlets have confirmed Nwakaeme’s signing on a free transfer from Saudi Arabia, although Trabzonspor has yet to make an official announcement as of the time of writing this report.

“I can summarize it like this: we had not yet reached an agreement at the time of the video I uploaded to social media. Since I knew that we would get along and how much we loved each other, I assumed that we had agreed that day because it is very easy for us to get along with each other. I would like to thank Mr. Nevzat, our president, and our coach very much. Thanks to them, this transfer took place. Of course, I can feel how much they love me,” said Nwakaeme, as quoted by NTVSpor.

When asked about what he missed most in Trabzon, Nwakaeme expressed his love for the fans and the joy that comes with every victory with the club.

“I missed everything very much: our fans, their support in the stadium, the crowd they created, and the joy of victory,” he added.

Paul Onuachu is another Nigerian who has been impressive for the Super Lig side and has been linked with a longer stay at the club following the expiration of his season-long loan from Southampton.

Nwakaeme revealed that he has spoken to Onuachu, who has told him of his plans to spend more time in Trabzon, having enjoyed his first season with the Black Sea Storm.

“I also talked to Onuachu; he expressed that he wanted to return. He told me that he was very happy and had a good time here, but I have no information about the current transfer situation,” he said.

Football fans await Nwakaeme’s official announcement by Trabzonspor and a potential link-up with Onuachu, with Trabzonspor still negotiating with Southampton for his transfer.
