Southampton have beaten Everton and Newcastle to the services of Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards, according to the Boot Room.

The news outlet reported on 2 July that the deal is expected to cost the Saints just £3million with an announcement expected in the next 24 hours.

The Toffees were hoping to sign the 20-year-old centre-back, who is also the captain of the England under-20s side.
