'Big Blow' - Journalist reacts to Rangers player exit news after contract talks

Dan Bardell believes Rangers will have done their utmost to keep John Lundstram before he decided to depart Ibrox on a free transfer this summer.

The Englishman confirmed via his Instagram (5 June) that he was leaving the club “with a heavy heart” once his contract came to an end.

The likes of Ipswich Town [The Scottish Sun] and Trabzonspor [Daily Record] have shown an interest in signing him on a free transfer.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes his departure will be a blow after Philippe Clement confirmed early contract talks between the pair.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “I’d be surprised if Rangers didn’t try their hardest to get him to stay. I think he’s a player who’s popular with the fans.

When they signed him it was a bit of a surprise, I thought he was a really good signing for Rangers after he’d had a good season in the Premier League.

He obviously wants to try something different maybe go back to England or abroad but I do think that it is certainly a big blow to Rangers to lose him.

John Lundstram confirms Rangers departure

The Gers are set to undertake a summer overhaul which will see a large number of players come in and out of the doors at Ibrox.

After a dismal end to the season where Celtic beat Rangers to both the Scottish Cup and league title, something had to give.

Clement has opted to move on some stars who may be unneeded at the end of their contracts and put his imprint on the squad.

This season he was up there with Rangers’ most important players but they will have to do without him next campaign.

It is unclear as to where he will end up but it is certain that he won’t be at Ibrox next season under Clement.

In other Rangers news, West Ham United offer a new five-year deal to ward Gers away from signing out of contract star.
