'Will score goals' - Pundit backs Levy to complete £26m transfer for Tottenham-linked attacker

Alan Hutton has backed Tottenham to complete the signing of Tammy Abraham this summer ahead of either Ivan Toney or Dominic Solanke.

Roma are understood to be looking for a fee of around £26million to let the England international leave Italy this summer, with reports linking Spurs, West Ham and Aston Villa with his signature [talkSPORT, 13 June].

Ange Postecoglou is understood to be eager to add a new number nine to his ranks after missing out on the top four last season and several names have been linked with a move to North London including Toney [Football Transfers, 18 June] and Solanke [talkSPORT, 21 May].

While Hutton believes the pair would be excellent additions to Postecoglou’s side, he admits that Abraham’s lower price tag could see Spurs decide to pursue a deal for the former Chelsea striker instead.

“Something like that wouldn’t surprise me,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“We’re talking about the likes of Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke but these guys have huge price tags and I get that because they’re top players.

“Tammy’s a player that I really like, I played alongside him at Villa so I know what he’s capable of, I know his attributes. He scores goals, he’s a team player and he’s good around the changing room.

“For that kind of price tag, I know he had a bad injury last season, he will score goals. He knows the league, he knows the stadiums and he knows what it takes to hit that level so I think he’s more than capable.

“At that price, it would be decent to get a player of his ability and his age, so I think he can be the guy that can go and score you a good amount of goals in a Premier League season.”

Will Tottenham and Daniel Levy sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney in summer transfer window?

Every Spurs supporter would love to see the Lilywhites get the chequebook out and splash the cash to bring in a proven number nine this summer, but Tottenham have never been reckless in the transfer market.

It seems unlikely that Postecoglou’s side would make a big money move for an attacking midfielder like Eberechi Eze and then immediately follow it up with another £50million push for a striker in the mould of Solanke.

If Roma are willing to accept a fee of around £25million for Abraham this summer, he may be the better option this summer. Although he has had injury issues, the England international has shown he can be a threat at the highest level.

Maybe Daniel Levy and his recruitment team could shock us all and instead decide to move for one of Toney or Solanke this summer, but it feels more likely that Abraham will be the man to arrive in North London.
