West Ham turned down the chance to sign Chelsea star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, according to the club’s former scout.

Mick Brown, who worked as a senior scout at the London Stadium until leaving alongside David Moyes in June and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that he had recommended the Hammers sign him last year.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that the 26-year-old is attracting interest from a number of top clubs after his lack of involvement at Stamford Bridge.

Despite having made ten appearances this season, Dewsbury-Hall has been left out of the matchday squad for five of their last six league games.

His three league appearances have totalled a combined 43 minutes, while he has largely been used as a rotational player for the European and domestic cup competitions.

As a result, clubs are exploring his availability and could make a move in the January transfer, be it on loan or as a permanent deal.

However, if Brown’s recommendation had been acted upon by the board and transfer team, West Ham could have swooped ahead of their London rivals for his signature.

Instead, he made the move from Leicester to Chelsea in a deal worth £30million when they hijacked his move to Brighton.

Brown insisted Dewsbury-Hall would have been a “very good signing” for West Ham as he offers something their other midfielders do not.

Now, the former scout who spent over a decade at Man United during their most successful period and has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment has insisted Dewsbury-Hall deserves to play regular Premier League football at this stage of his career.

I recommended him to West Ham last year,” he told Football Insider.

“I thought he was very impressive when he was at Leicester, and I think he would’ve been a very good signing for the club.

“He would have been available, too, if they’d gone for him.

“He can travel with the ball and take people out of the game, he can pass it well, he can shoot, he can cross, he can do a bit of everything.

“Those are aspects I think they’re still lacking at West Ham.

But they sort of waved it away, you know. The idea was dismissed, as far as I know. They never got back to me about it anyway.

“It’s a shame he hasn’t been given the most opportunities at Chelsea, because he deserves to be playing regularly in the Premier League.
