Newcastle United are planning to cash in on Miguel Almiron in the January transfer window to raise funds to put towards signing a new right-winger.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 30-year-old no longer features as a major part of Eddie Howe’s plans.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that the addition of a new winger has become the Magpies’ top priority ahead of the January transfer window.

As things stand, Almiron and Jacob Murphy are the only natural right-sided wingers at Newcastle, while Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes both operate from the left.

Almiron has featured just seven times so far this season and has started just one Premier League game, playing a total of just 103 minutes in the league.

Saudi Pro League clubs had expressed an interest in signing the Paraguay international in the summer, but were unable to reach an agreement over the move.

Now, however, Newcastle are keen to move him on and are set to entertain offers for his signature should any arrive as they attempt to drum up interest ahead of the window.

Newcastle’s financial situation remains up in the air in January after their struggles with profit and sustainability rules during the summer window.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in player recruitment at the top level after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the funds from Almiron’s sale would allow them to spend amid the uncertainty.

I’ve heard they’re looking to move him on,” he told Football Insider.

“They’re drumming up a bit of interest and they’ll accept the right offer in the January transfer window.

“So with the money they bring in from his sale, I’d expect that will be reinvested into the squad because there are a few areas they want to strengthen.

“Especially at right-wing, that’s their priority and it will be even more so if he leaves.

“How much money they’ll get for him at this stage, I’m not sure, but they want to raise some funds.

“Given the financial position they’ve found themselves in, their spending might be limited so any money coming in will add to that budget.
