Expert suggests Tottenham took advantage of open door to complete transfer

Bryan King has praised Archie Gray after the 18-year-old completed a move to Tottenham.

The ex-Spurs scout believes the young midfielder is “one for the future”.

Tottenham announced the signing of Gray from Leeds United via their official website on Tuesday (2 July).

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has expressed his delight after the transfer was agreed.

“He is a talented young player,” King said.

“Is he going to win you the Premier League? Perhaps not yet, but he has demonstrated his potential while with Leeds United.

“And, of course, Leeds being in the Championship for another year has opened the door for some of their best players to leave.

“You don’t need to be big on recruitment to know that this is a talented player and one for the future if everything goes according to plan.”

There will be Spurs supporters out there who might not have seen much of Gray.

However, they should rest assured knowing that the club have signed a very promising young player.

Gray played 47 times in the Championship last season, despite spending most of the season as a 17-year-old.

He adapted quickly to senior football and was one of the main reasons the Whites reached the EFL Championship play-offs.

Gray was a key player under Daniel Farke and will be aiming to slot straight into the Spurs first-team under Ange Postecoglou.

The versatility which he demonstrated last season, playing both in his natural midfield role while also excelling at right-back, will come as a big plus to his manager.

This is a very exciting signing and supporters should look forward to watching Gray in action during pre-season.
