John Wenham believes Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as England manager is good news for Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose doesn’t think the 27-year-old was likely to play much football under Lee Carsley.
Solanke earned his first England call-up in seven years during October, much to the dismay of some. However, he only managed 18 minutes across both of the Three Lions’ UEFA Nations League fixtures this month, although he did make an impact with his limited time.
Therefore, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks a change of manager is best for the Spurs striker.
“It will give players a fresh, clean slate,” Wenham said.
“Solanke obviously worked hard to get back in the England squad. However, he only played 18 minutes over the international break, which isn’t a lot.
“When you consider Harry Kane was absent for one match, it makes you think if he wasn’t going to play when Kane wasn’t there, when would he play under Carsley?
“Therefore, I think the change will only be seen as a good thing. As for James Maddison, he just has to keep working hard.”
Tottenham star Dominic Solanke to feature under Thomas Tuchel for England?
Getting into the England squad as a striker is incredibly difficult. Harry Kane will always be the first name on the teamsheet, especially considering he is captain.
As a result, it leaves the rest of England’s strikers fighting for the number two spot. For Solanke, he still has the likes of Ollie Watkins to compete with, which doesn’t make things easy.
However, with Tuchel having been appointed, the Spurs star has the opportunity to make an impression on a manager who will be watching on from a fresh perspective.
In other Tottenham news, the club are ready to win the race for a Premier League striker ahead of Newcastle United.
