Expert View: Tottenham forward to leave on loan amid frustrating pre-season development

John Wenham claims Tottenham forward Alejo Véliz will be sent out on a season-long loan.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose doesn’t understand why the 20-year-old has featured thus far during pre-season.

Véliz came on midway through the second half during pre-season friendlies with Hearts and QPR.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – would prefer those minutes were left to Will Lankshear.

“I’ve been a little bit frustrated seeing Lankshear replaced by Véliz during pre-season matches,” Wenham said.

“It is pretty obvious that Véliz is going to leave Tottenham on loan this summer. Therefore, the fact that he will be going out on loan, I don’t understand why he is taking up pre-season minutes.

“Lankshear shouldn’t have to share his minutes with Véliz, I want to see him play more frequently during this pre-season tour.”

Alejo Véliz to leave Tottenham on loan?

Véliz has become something of a forgotten man in North London.

He hardly featured for Sevilla while on loan in Spain last season and will therefore be keen to play more regular first-team football this season, whether that be with Spurs or elsewhere.

Tottenham paid big money to bring the young forward to the Premier League, signing him for £13million from Rosario Central (via BBC Sport, 8 August).

As a result, the club will be keen to handle his stay at the club correctly, and it is therefore important that they make the right decision regarding Véliz this season.
