John Wenham claims Yago Santiago could seek a “shock” Tottenham exit after what has happened during pre-season.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes several players are ahead of the 21-year-old forward in the pecking order in North London.
Santiago scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 17 Premier League 2 appearances last season.
However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested the forward could be off despite that bright form.
“Santiago was an unused substitute against Hearts but played with the Under-21s against St. Albans instead of against QPR with the first-team,” Wenham said.
“He is probably thinking all of his Under-21 teammates from last season, the likes of Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear, Tyrese Hall and Luca Gunter, are progressing with the first-team.
“Therefore, Santiago might be feeling slightly left out and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him seek a permanent exit.
“That might come as a shock to some supporters. However, he only has a year left on his contract, and quite a few players – including Mikey Moore – are ahead of him.”
Yago Santiago to seek Tottenham exit after pre-season development?
Santiago probably felt that he deserved a first-team opportunity after his form last season.
However, while the likes of Donley, Lankshear, Hall and George Abbott have all jetted off to Japan with the first team, Santiago is in Spain with the Under-21s.
With his 22nd birthday coming up this season, the Spaniard will feel as though his career is now at something of a crossroads.
He has seen several players younger than him pushing on at the club and might therefore feel as though it is time for a move elsewhere.
In other Tottenham news, Arsenal want to hijack the club’s move for a West Ham United gem.
