Fabrizio Romano shares Arsenal update on Onana interest as Everton stance shared

Everton are expecting to receive transfer interest for Amadou Onana amid reports stating that Arsenal are monitoring the player, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer specialist reported via his Daily Briefing article on Sunday (16 June) that the Toffees have not received any formal proposals for the midfielder but are expecting some this summer.

It is understood that the Gunners have not yet made contact concerning Onana, though he has been on the club’s list of targets since last summer.

Romano revealed that Everton “feel something could happen for Onana this summer”, which is why they are refusing to sell Jarrad Branthwaite to Manchester United on the cheap.

While Arsenal have been tracking Onana for a while, they have yet to table an official offer, although Everton would likely be willing to listen if his valuation is met.

Could Everton sell Amadou Onana to Arsenal this summer?

Onana’s potential transfer to Arsenal is certainly one that makes sense, with the Toffees looking to sell one asset to ease any PSR concerns at Goodison Park, having been docked a total of eight points during the 2023/24 season.

Of course, with the update surrounding the club’s takeover and Dan Friedkin, Everton are likely to receive a boost in funds which will help them stay in control during the summer transfer market.

Losing Branthwaite to Manchester United would be a significant blow this summer, especially after his sensational season in defence alongside James Tarkowski.

Although Onana is still a prized player at Goodison Park, he has been far less influential than the 21-year-old centre-back, having only started 23 of the Toffees’ 38 league matches.

The 22-year-old arrived on Merseyside in a £33million deal in 2022, as per BBC Sport, which could see the club accumulate a generous profit if he were to be sold this summer.

In other Everton news, Manchester United are readying a second transfer bid for Jarrad Branthwaite after their first offer was rejected.
