Ange Postecoglou no longer has to depend on James Maddison as his main creative force after Tottenham beat Manchester United 3-0 on Sunday (29 September).

While the 27-year-old has notched one goal and two assists in the league already this season, building on his 13 goal contributions from last term, he has lacked a certain degree of consistency.

Despite the three goals scored at Old Trafford this weekend, Maddison was not directly involved in any of them, though this does not look to be a problem for the manager as another of his stars stepped up.

Dejan Kulusevski, who has been moved off the wing and into midfield, was a driving force for Spurs as he scored a deft chip over Andre Onana to double their lead before Dominic Solanke’s late strike.

The 24-year-old was, rightly, awarded Man of the Match with an 8.7 rating, as per FotMob, and his stats completely support the decision.

Against Man United, Maddison created just one chance for the attackers in front of him. Kulusevski, on the other hand, created nine chances, including three big chances – the most of anyone on the pitch [FotMob].

It also saw him create the most chances of any visiting player at Old Trafford since records began, as per Statman Dave via X.

While he also lost the most duels in the match (6), Postecoglou looks to have found a replacement for Maddison as the midfielder struggles for consistency at Spurs right now.

Kulusevski hit the target with 100 per cent of his efforts (1/1), and completed 89 per cent of his passes, with three of these going into the final third.

The Swedish international is slowly growing into one of the most important figures at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the player now joint-second for the most chances created in the Premier League this season [FotMob].

With Spurs competing in several competitions this season, including the Europa League, Postecoglou needs as many key players at his disposal as possible, and Kulusevski’s rise can only be good news.

He now ranks in the top 93 and 90 percentiles for touches in the attacking penalty area and progressive passes received [FBref], respectively, so he just needs to increase his goal contribution numbers now.
