Barry Ferguson has blasted Michael Beale for what he has now said about his time as Rangers manager.
The English tactician appeared on Inside The Academy’s YouTube channel on 11 November and suggested that “snakes” wanted to see him fail at a couple of jobs he has had.
However, those comments do not sit well with Ferguson, who dubbed Beale “silly” and told him to take responsibility for his failures as a manager.
Writing for Daily Record [21 November], the former Gers captain stated: “Let’s get one thing perfectly straight, Beale was entirely responsible for the decisions he made during his time in charge.
“For him to suggest that people around the club wanted him to fail is simply not the case.
“I have no idea what he was hoping to achieve by coming away with that kind of stuff as it makes him sound silly.
“He had his shot and, let’s be honest, it wasn’t a good time for anyone. He should simply move on and accept that it didn’t work out for him.
“Remember, this is a guy who was prepared to be seen sitting in the directors box when Gio van Bronckhorst was under pressure and fighting to stay in control.
“So maybe he’s not best placed to start talking about the morals of anyone else.
“It didn’t sit well at the time and it reflected badly on him when, a few days later, he ended up taking Gio’s job. But that’s for Beale’s conscience.”
Rangers legend Barry Ferguson not pleased with Michael Beale’s “snakes” comment
It is worth noting that Beale did not explicitly mention Rangers when making the statement, but for someone who has had a total of three managerial stints, a “couple” does not leave much out.
In fairness, Beale’s most successful stint as a manager came at Ibrox, where he managed 43 games and averaged 2.26 points per game [Transfermarkt]. Whereas, he averaged 1.41 and 1.17 points per game respectively for QPR and Sunderland.
Nevertheless, the 44-year-old would have been better off not making that statement, considering the size of the clubs he has held the reins at.
Beale, meanwhile, appears to have taken a step back in his managerial career, joining Al-Ettifaq as Steven Gerrard’s assistant on 20 November.
He was an integral part of Gerrard’s backroom staff during his time as Rangers boss between 2018 and 2021 – a period during which the Light Blues won the Premiership unbeaten.
The pair will be hopeful of recreating a similar level of success in Damman, while the Glasgow giants struggle under Philippe Clement, who the club are reluctant to sack [Ludo Vandewalle of Het Nieuwsblad].
In other Rangers news, Clement might find a sack inevitable in December after the latest Nils Koppen development.
