Leicester City are on the verge of a transfer breakthrough as Steve Cooper looks to bolster his squad before Friday’s deadline.
The Foxes have taken one point from their first two games of the season, drawing with Tottenham Hotspur before losing at Fulham.
This has been a turbulent summer for Leicester having seen boss Enzo Maresca leave for a move to Chelsea.
Star midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall followed and Leicester haven’t been able to absolutely splash the cash under new boss Steve Cooper.
Bobby Decordova-Reid, Michael Golding, Caleb Okoli, Oliver Skipp and Jordan Ayew have joined whilst Abdul Fatawu’s loan move has become permanent.
Facundo Buonanotte’s loan move has given Leicester a boost too but the Foxes are now close to a major investment.
Leicester City close in on £22m signing
Leicester hammered League Two side Tranmere Rovers 4-0 on Tuesday night, securing a passage onto the third round of the Carabao Cup.
The Foxes have been busy working on a transfer deal as well though with Genk’s Bilal El Khannouss now set to join.
Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri claims that Leicester have reached a ‘final agreement’ with Genk for El Khannouss to arrive.
Tavolieri states that Leicester have agreed to pay €23million plus €3million in add-ons, taking the total deal to €26million (£22million).
Genk will also have a 15% sell-on clause in the deal and El Khannouss is expected to fly into England on Wednesday.
A four-year deal is waiting for El Khannouss at the King Power Stadium with Leicester now set to secure a major coup.
Liverpool have eyed Bilal El Khannouss
El Khannouss has come up in the Genk ranks having previously been on the Anderlecht books.
The 20-year-old playmaker is a Morocco international with 14 caps to his name and has already played nearly 100 first-team games for Genk.
El Khannouss has only scored four goals in that time but he has chipped in with 14 assists too.
Tipped for a big future, El Khannous has even been on the radar at Premier League giants Liverpool.
Reports in January suggested that Liverpool were interested in snapping up El Khannouss having been impressed with his displays in Belgium.
The Reds have never firmed up their interest though and that has allowed Leicester to swoop in and snap him up.
Maybe Liverpool will keep tabs on El Khannouss going forward, but for now at least, this is one deal for Leicester fans to enjoy ahead of transfer deadline day.
