Finance Expert: Dyche's future 'up in the air' after Everton takeover update

Sean Dyche’s future at Everton is “up in the air” after takeover developments but a decision around his future isn’t expected imminently, according to Dan Plumley.

The Friedkin Group, are understood to be planning an audit of football operations after they agreed a deal to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s controlling stake at Goodison Park [iNews, 23 September].

While Dyche’s position will certainly be considered in that assessment, football finance expert Dan Plumley doesn’t expect the new owners on Merseyside to rush into any “trigger” decisions early in their tenure.

“Given where we’re at with the takeover, everything goes up in the air again to some extent,” Plumley exclusively told Goodison News.

“The longer-term plan will change as it would with any new takeover and that is everything from infrastructure, investment, clearing some of the debt, getting finances back in shape, the playing squad and the manager.

“I don’t necessarily think we’ll see any immediate trigger reactions. They’ve spent enough time looking at Everton from behind the scenes to know where they are at currently.

“But it does throw the manager situation and the playing side up in the air in the long run and that has a financial impact as well and it has a playing impact in terms of the squad and how settled that it.

“You’ve got to be careful, but I think the dynamics of the situation will change now given the nature of the finance behind where we’re at and that could mean a step-change for the club moving forward.

“But also, it has to look to the long-term as well.”

Will Sean Dyche exit Goodison Park amid new Everton takeover developments?

Of course, new owners will have new ideas about how a football club should be run and while that doesn’t mean that the Friekdins won’t want to work with Dyche, it does put him under increased pressure.

With the Englishman’s contract on Merseyside set to expire at the end of the season, his future was always going to be brought into focus in the coming months. The takeover has just sped things along.

It will be interesting to see just how long the new Everton owners are willing to wait before pulling the trigger.
