John Wenham expects Yves Bissouma to start ahead of Rodrigo Bentancur when Tottenham play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Sunday (27 October).
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes Bissouma has moved ahead of Bentancur in the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou.
Bentancur started Spurs’ 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (24 October), a match which left Spurs with a potentially “huge blow” (via talkSPORT on X, 24 October).
However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – expects the midfielder to drop back to the bench against the Eagles.
“I expect Bissouma to start at Selhurst Park,” Wenham said.
“He started against West Ham last time out in the Premier League but didn’t start against AZ Alkmaar. He has scored a couple of goals recently, including against the Hammers.
“I’ve always preferred Bentancur to Bissouma if I’m being honest. However, it seems as though the pecking order is Bissouma ahead of Bentancur right now.”
Ange Postecoglou to axe Rodrigo Bentancur for Tottenham v Crystal Palace
Postecoglou has several big decisions to make regarding his team selection on Sunday.
It looks as though the Australian could be without Son Heung-min (via Spurs’ official website, 25 October), which could lead to a first Premier League start for Mikey Moore.
And in midfield, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Bissouma replace Bentancur.
He seems to have become the first-choice Premier League midfielder in recent weeks, with Postecoglou perhaps preparing for Bentancur to face an extended spell on the sidelines as a result of his FA charge (via the Standard, 12 September).
In other Tottenham news, Timo Werner could leave the club in January after a transfer update.
