Kulusevski wows pundit as ‘on fire’ Tottenham star tipped for team of the season glory

Mark Schwarzer has predicted that Dejan Kulusevski will earn a place in the Premier League Team of the Season this term after being impressed with his form for Tottenham.

The former Fulham goalkeeper waxed lyrical about the Swede’s goalscoring performance in Spurs’ 4-1 win against West Ham last weekend and said that he has been “on fire” this season.

Tipping Kulusevski to have another great game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday (27 October), he pointed out that Ange Postecoglou’s decision to move him to a central position has paid off.

“My hot take for this week is Dejan Kulaseski is going to be in the Team of the Season and he’ll back it up with another great performance against Crystal Palace”, he said on The Optus Sport Football Podcast (23 October).

“He is absolutely on fire. He’s talked about it since he’s been at Spurs that he wants to play more central.

“He’s a guy that I look at and on the weekend, he played in a combination of positions, predominantly out wide and then he scores the goal from actually coming in from the right-hand side, cutting inside and that’s what he does really, really well.

“So I think he is one of the in-form players at the moment in the Premier League.

“I think Ange is a big fan of his, he’s in great form and I think the slight change in his positional play and the freedom he’s given to go inside a little bit more, I think really suits him and Tottenham are benefiting from it. He’s getting better and better as we speak.”

Is Tottenham ace Dejan Kulusevski an early contender for Team of the Season spot?

Schwarzer’s comments may come as a surprise to some as Kulusevski, who racked up 13 goal contributions in 18 league games in his first season at the club, has just two goals and an assist to his name this season.

However, the 24-year-old’s influence after moving to a central midfield role extends beyond just goals and assists. As seen against West Ham, he was one of the best players from either team, with contributions on both ends of the pitch.

With Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa making strong starts to the season, it is hard to say if Kulusevski will indeed be in the Team of the Season come the end of May. However, he has certainly staked a claim as an early contender.

Meanwhile, the former Juventus man will likely settle for a place on the bench when Spurs host AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday (24 October) evening.

He came off the bench in both of Spurs’ two previous Europa games and is expected to do the same against the Eredivisie club.
