Finance Expert: Rangers to come to compensation agreement after Ibrox news

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers will likely agree to pay compensation to use Hampden Park in August after issues at Ibrox.

The Bears are unable to use their home stadium for the first month of the season after delays to construction work on the Copland Road Stand [Daily Record].

With talks underway with the Scottish FA over Hampden Park, the football finance expert admitted that is the logical choice but a fee will be needed.

“There will have to be some sort of compensation agreement that is taking place,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“If it is Hampden, for example, I believe there have been other events there that need to be looked at in the context of what Rangers need.

“I think location-wise, it seems like the logical choice, it’s just a little bit higher capacity than Ibrox, but it’s in that ballpark.

“They need to be in a big stadium, that is absolutely paramount because they’ve got to generate funds, they know they can sell that stadium out and they’ll want to generate at least the same amount of money from matchday tickets, albeit probably having to offset that with a little bit of a fee to play there.

“We saw Spurs play at Wembley for a season when their stadium was being built, so it does happen and you have to find a way to deal with that financially.”

Rangers compensation for Hampden Park

As much as it would be nice to pay at Hampden free of charge, that is never going to happen with the SFA not handing out favours like that.

Philippe Clement will be desperate for a better start to new season than Michael Beale had last year, and not having Ibrox available will help that.

Hopefully, all of this drama doesn’t come back to haunt the club.
