Rangers cutting their salary costs by £6million is a big drop to make in one summer, Dan Plumley has said.
Nils Koppen revealed at the latest AGM on 5 December that the Bears had cut their wage bill significantly in the transfer window, as well as the average age of their squad.
Plumley, a football finance expert, admits that Rangers must balance the revenue and cost side of the club alongside the cash expected from European exploits at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Plumley reacted to the latest reveal at the AGM as Koppen restructured the squad under Philippe Clement.
“It is a big drop, yes,” he said.
“But that comes with restructuring the squad and having to strike a balance with predicted European revenues depending on which competition they were budgeting for.
New £6m reveal emerges at Rangers
“They always have to balance the revenue and cost side of the equation where possible.“
The word rebuild has been used far too many times in recent years at Ibrox, but Clement has likely been saved by that in recent months.
Results in Europe have been excellent again with away wins at Malmo and OGC Nice, with huge tests to come against Tottenham and Manchester United.
Things are starting to fall into place for Clement, but with little success so far this season, he needs to pick up results against the likes of Spurs and Celtic this week to justify the cost-cutting at Ibrox again.
In other Rangers news, David Edgar cannot believe what Clement has told the media in recent days
