Ex-FIFA ref hopes Scottish FA will take action after what Rangers star did v Ross County

Keith Hackett wants the Scottish FA to reach out to Rangers regarding Danilo’s celebration in the weekend win over Ross County.

Danilo netted the Gers’ second goal in a convincing 3-0 victory on Sunday (8 December) and celebrated by sitting on the advertising hoardings in the away section.

In the view of former FIFA referee Hackett, this was potentially unsafe and is something that should have resulted in a yellow card.

“The action that he took should have seen the referee intervene and issue a caution for his actions,” Hackett told Ibrox News.

One of the reasons why this is a law that the authorities enacted is because going to the crowd to celebrate creates a surge and that means a risk of injury to supporters at the front.

I was surprised the referee didn’t take any action. I hope the Scottish FA will write to the club and tell them to be aware that celebrations of this manner is a yellow card offence.”

Rangers comfortable winners against Ross County

Hamza Igamane’s early goal set Rangers on their way and there was not really any looking back from there, with Danilo capitalising on a goalkeeping error before James Tavernier’s third.

The Gers finally have some momentum, coming at the perfect time ahead of games with Tottenham – who are in disarray – in the Europa League and Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final.

As for Danilo’s celebration, it would have been a needless yellow had the referee followed the letter of the law.

At the same time, it is always nice to see players celebrate with those who made the journey. Thankfully for those in the away section, it was far from a wasted trip.
