Keith Jackson thinks it’s impossible to look past Celtic beating Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday.
The Daily Record journalist admits a draw when Tottenham visit Ibrox on Thursday [12 December] would be more than decent, but the Old Firm is where the Bears are expected to stumble.
The Gers are unbeaten in their last eight fixtures in all competitions but face their toughest tests yet this week, with the final at Hampden Park on 15 December and Philippe Clement winning would come as a shock to some.
Writing in the Daily Record [9 December], Jackson said: “They’ll miss Ianis Hagi and Danilo on Thursday when they’ll need all hands on deck.
“A draw would represent a more than decent Europa League result. But it’s impossible to see past Celtic at Hampden on Sunday.”
Rangers need to retain League Cup v Celtic
The Light Blues started the season in poor fashion and now find themselves 11 points behind Brendan Rodgers’ team in the Scottish Premiership.
In recent weeks, Clement has seemingly found the right formula at Ibrox, though, with the Bears beating OGC Nice, Kilmarnock and Ross County convincingly.
Hamza Igamane continued his fine form at the Global Energy Stadium, finding the back of the net in the sixth minute in the 3-0 win on Sunday [8 December].
The Moroccan will be influential going into the upcoming matches, with Cyriel Dessers clearly not the answer to the previous goalscoring woes at Rangers.
In contrast to the Gers, Tottenham are coming into the Europa League game after being beaten 4-3 by Chelsea in the Premier League after a collapse of their own.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Light Blues getting a point or even more at home against Spurs, but the real challenge will be against Celtic.
Clement is yet to beat his Old Firm counterparts, and this would be the perfect time to snap that streak.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has taken a jibe at the Glaswegian outfit ahead of the Spurs clash.
